Located in the historic core of Grono, a small village within the steep rocky walls of the Mesolcina Valley, the Macelleria Bernasconi Fumagalli is a perfect example of an artisanal family business. Currently welcoming you in the small butcher shop is Silvia, Lino and their son Celeste representing the 3rd and 4th generation respectively. The history of the Macelleria Bernasconi Fumagalli dates back to 1929, when Mario Fumagalli, Silvia’s grandfather bought the small shop which was later run by Silvia’s parents and today by her, her husband and their son.
The shop serves fresh meat and elaborated products but has always been famous in the region for their cured and aged charcuterie such as salami and carnesecca, which are prepared artisanally according to secret recipes of long traditions. Surprisingly these specialties cannot be easily copied, since in their production the environment is essential. As a matter of fact, Lino, Silvia, Celeste and their team rely on the noble rots, which are naturally present in the microclimate of the Mesolcina Valley, to age their incredible charcuterie to perfection.
