Petite Arvine

Petite Arvine

Arvine is undoubtedly the most remarkable of the many indigenous grape varieties found in Valais. The winegrower often gives it the name of Petite Arvine to distinguish the variety from a Grande Arvine that still exists in traces. However, the two varieties have nothing in common, neither morphologically, nor in terms of the quality of their products. The wine of Arvine (Petite Arvine), full-bodied, very typical, with the smell of flowering gyclines, ranks this variety among the noblest. Vinified dry, Arvine has a very virile character, accentuated by a fairly high acidity. The over-ripening of the grapes often allows the retention of residual sugar; the wine then acquires a remarkable power and harmony, while retaining its typicality.

Other Cave de Goubing’s products

The Cave de Goubing is located in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, in Sierre, at the most open point of the Rhone Valley, at an altitude of 533 meters. Called the "City of the Sun" because of its exceptional sunshine - more than 300 days a year - the region of Sierre, with its 320 ha of vineyards in the heart of the Valais vineyards, is the Swiss capital of wine.

It was in 1974 that Michel Jacquod, winegrower and winemaker, founded the Cave de Goubing. In 1999, after studying winegrowing and oenology, his son Olivier joined the company, and has been running it since 2007.

The vineyard, which covers an area of 3.5 ha, is managed in Integrated Production (IP) since the early 1990s. The installation of the drip irrigation system in 2017 allows, thanks to the adjustable drippers, to make up to 70% water savings.

For all the grape varieties of the Cave de Goubing, vinification, the operation that consists of transforming the grapes into wine by fermentation, is done in the traditional way and without chaptalization (without adding sugar to the must to increase the final alcohol content of the wine). 2016 saw the birth of a new red wine, the "Syrah Grand Cru", gold medal at the Swiss Wine Grand Prix in 2019, 2017 a new white wine, the "Ermitage Grand Cru" and 2019 "Le Jubilé", a traditional method sparkling wine. Passion and pride!
